Rikshey Wangmo is from Martod, Amdo. When she was three years old, her parents separated leaving her and her brother without a primary gaurdian to look after them. She relied on begging for food from relatives and other people from her village. At this time, she was very poor. Then, fortunately, while Khenpo Kunzang was giving teachings in Martod, a kind monk explained her situation to Rinpoche and after hearing about her life, he accepted her to the school.
